- Gattaca - Un-genetically enhanced Ethan Hawke tells a story about himself and his genetically enhanced brother when they were young. They used to swim far out into the water, and whoever swam the farthest, won. Un-genetically enhanced Ethan always wins, and when his brother asks how he does it, he says, “I never saved anything for the way back”.
- The Big Kahuna - Everyone’s life has something to regret, and it takes a person with character to know enough to regret the things they’ve done. (See my “favourite quotes” list for the full quotation).
- The Big Kahuna Be genuinely interested in someone. Ask questions and care about the answers, otherwise you’re just selling something. (Also in my “favourite quotes” list).
- Secretary - It’s not necessarily a bad thing to be different, and relationships are as varied as the people in them.
- Tin Cup Sometimes the point isn’t winning.
- Hope Floats - I know this is the quintessential chick flick, but sometimes I need reminding of the point: at times your life seems to be completely unmanageable, and it looks like you’ll never know happiness again. But you just have to give Hope a little time to float back up to the top.
- Seabiscuit - You don’t throw away a life just because it’s a little banged up.
- It's a Wonderful Life - Life's tough, it sucks a whole lot sometimes, and the gifts you have sometimes don't get the attention they deserve. You are important, and life is worth cherishing.

I don't have a clue why I didn't post this before - I found this tucked away in one of my folders as a Word document.
