A few of these movies gave my eyes the bloat. Be careful when watching.

Bloody Sunday is one of the Netflix movies currently sitting on my TV and awaiting a viewing. I have high hopes.

I feel compelled to see Underworld even though I fear major suckage. I know at least one Listologist here liked it, so I hold out hope, but Kate Beckinsale is an actress to whom I keep extending credit based on one film (Cold Comfort Farm), but she's way behind on her payments.

I'd love to hear your thoughts (and yours, Jim, once you've watched it) on Bloody Sunday!

Shalom, y'all!

Cold Comfort Farm is a great movie. "I saw something nasty in the woodshed", that's a classic.

I thought Bloody Sunday was going to be better, but I should explain. The film itself is brilliant, it has that effortless quality great movies have. It manages to blend period-piece and political drama very well. My problem stems from the fact that I had just watched a piece on Bloody Sunday aired on PBS or Discovery. The best storytelling can't make up for hearing the voices of the people involved. They're anguish was heart-breaking, subtle events became explosive as the people told their stories. Watching that program dulled some of the movies edges. I wish I had taken a few months and then watched Bloody Sunday but such is life. I would still highly recommend this film.

Underworld doesn't suck. Yipee. It gathers moss in the second act, but then again most movies nowadays do. (I think I should do a post about that.) It looks good, which is half the battle with a movie like this. Turn off your brain and watch this film in widescreen. The script is limp as a fish (didn't bother me). Kate looks really good in leather and struts a lot. I would recommend Underworld as a silly/dumb, entertaining, action-packed Wolfeo and Drooliet (bad pun).

If you need a star rating, I'd be kind and give it 3 out of 4.

Very interesting comments. Thanks!

I'd be interested in hearing what you thoughts about Bloody Sunday L.B. The longer the entry the better.

LBangs has a review of Bloody Sunday here, but I bet you could entice him to expound further, if that's not enough.

It's always great to find another Cold Comfort Farm fan! Between you and a few others, I'm actually developing unhealthy expectations for Underworld, but what the heck, I'm a sucker for a good action movie, so I'll probably pull through, especially since sometimes I'm even a sucker for a mediocre action movie.

I'd love to hear what you have to say about the general cinematic trend of moss-gathering second acts, if you're willin'.

Interesting reviews L.B. Thanks for the link Jim. BTW, I watched a movie called The Mirror by Tarkovsky, I would like a differing opinion from anyone willing to watch. The Mirror and The Color Of Pomegranates just about fried my brain.

Hey, what happened to your "2nd Act Blues" article?

I re-wrote it after an epiphany (tingle tingle)2 days ago, left it for 2 days and deleted it. This is my internet equivilent of 5 minute art. It will change and bubble in the minds of the 15 people who read it. Actually, I would like to know the thoughts of people who read it 2 weeks from now and see how it has changed.

Anyway, what'd ya think of the explanation?

Funny thing, it popped up in my news aggregator so I opened it in a new tab (using the wonderful Firefox browser) in the background. Then I finished reading my news and deleted everything in my aggregator. I then started clicking through the various tabs my reading had prompted me to open, and when I got to yours Listology threw the "the content you are trying to access no longer exists" message, so I haven't actually seen the article yet. I just know it existed. In any case, I'm looking forward to the revamp!

I am working on said revamp right now, IN MY MIND. ;)

also:
I am recommending a film you may or may not want to watch, The Mirror by Tarkovsky. I would like to know what you think of this film.

Alrighty, it's now in my Netflix queue. I have some stuff in my top 20 that I've been looking forward to, so I stuck it at 17, rather arbitrarily. If I can get back on the movie wagon I should get to it in the next three or four weeks.

I live in Canada, land of the beaver (I always enjoy emparting that), so there's no netflix.ca, but 3-4 weeks. Pick yourself up and get back on that wagon and you could watch 17 in say...1 week with no sleep and a couple of cans of maxwell coffee. Think Rocky. :~D

No Netflix? Lordy, I don't know how you live, beavers or not. I'll do my best to crank through the 16 in front of your man Tarkovsky's.

The power of coercion. :) Thanks.

The other list I lost to my weblog. Check it out.

Retrieved. :-)

Holy cow!

I bet you didn't know I wielded such power.

I certainly didn't. All I can say is "damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead." :O

I was paranoid for a couple of days after that retrieval. Wondering if you were watching me very closely. Then I realized I wasn't that interesting and I was happy again. :+) By the way, Listology is one heck of a great site big J, ranking right up there with Acclaimedmusic and Allmusicguide. I think I'm addicted. merf. :^)

:-) Glad you're hooked! I do watch you pretty closely, but really I watch everybody pretty closely. Not in a suspicious backward-glancing kind of way, more just in endless fascination. All I do is check Recent Activity frequently enough that I see everything. I do miss some stuff, but not much.

Thanks again for the kudos! Hey, what happened to the list with our Thomas Jane discussion? I was all set to fail in my attempt at guessing your "Am I a king or a breeding bull" quote.

I've went on a deleting frenzy this past weekend. It's spring cleaning time and took the axe to all the superfluous lists. (I like a tidy little my content page). Clearing the way for my 500 music reviews(arg, what have I done). But I'll just ask again if that'll keep ya happy (and loving Zhang Yimou).

where's this quote from "Am I a king or a breeding bull?" (tee hee) tis an old one.

I'm oh-fer on the quotes. Don't know any of 'em. Zero. Zilch. Nada. I've been bageled. I cry uncle, you can let me up now (although I'll only be disappointed in my performance if I've actually seen any of these movies).

As for the deletions, you should consider archiving stuff instead. Just open up the list and check the "archive this list" box before saving it. That will keep it from showing up in your profile, but it will continue to show up in search results, and you won't lose the associated discussions and stuff.

This post made me think of a suggestion I keep meaning to make, but always forget when I'm online.

I'd love it if I could go to a page (maybe through 'My Menu') and find checkboxes next to each list for archiving or deleting. I have several lists I really need to tuck under, but the thought of opening every one of them up to click 'archive' always makes me lazy. Would this be hard to do - a mass archiving or deletion screen?

Shalom, y'all!

Shouldn't be too hard. Of course, I haven't been able to put much time into Listology programming lately (clearly watching too many movies), but I hope I have at least one more programming flurry in me before spring well and truly springs. I'll see what I can do!

Alrighty, give this a whirl, let me know if that does the trick for you.

Will do. I never read instructions, it's more fun that way.

Oh yes and in case you want to know (and really...who wouldn't) :), the quote's from The Private Life of Enry de Eith, ee is ee is. Charles Laughton, the portly little guy who once said "I have a face like the behind of an elephant".

One day people will pay me for the massive amounts of useless knowledge I carry about in my mind.

And I like LB's suggestion too.
