- I have a theory that no matter musical genre you favour, everyone owns something by the following artists:
- Paul Simon - Graceland
- Simon and Garfunkel - Bridge Over troubled Water
- Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine
- Beatles - anything! Although the White Album and Abey Road lead the pack
- Madonna - The Immaculate Collection
- Bjork - Debut
- U2 - Achtung Baby
- CCR - some greatest hits collection
- REM - Out of Time
- The Stone / The Who (or possibly both) - Greatest Hits
- Pearl Jam - Ten

I think an interesting offshoot of this list could be same idea, but with an embarrassing theme - for example, Thriller by Michael Jackson or some horrid "This Is Dance 1992!"
Have I missed anything?

Hmm...
Had on cassette haven't upgraded to CD:
Paul Simon - Graceland
Simon & Garfunkel - The Concert in Central Park
Have on CD but never listen to:
Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine
Have on CD:
Madonna - Ray of Light
Bjork - Post
U2 - Achtung Baby
REM - Out of Time
Don't own anything by:
CCR
The Stones/The Who
Pearl Jam
This made me start wondering... If everyone on here created a list "my cds" and put in everything they own. It'd be neat to have a program go through and figure out what single album is owned by the most people.
Everyone owns a Queen's Greatest Hits album. In Terry Prachett's/Neil Gaiman's book Good Omens they put forth a theory that any tape left in a car will gradually morph into Queen's Greatest Hits!
Also, maybe not as much with younger folk, but everyone I know owns Boston - Boston.
You know, you made me realize that my list is quite "age-specific". You are comletely right about Queen, but it is an 'older cousin' thing in my books. Interesting...
busy, are you saying that everyone owns those specific titles by those artists or that everyone just owns 'something' by those artists. i am confused...
I think it's everyone owns something by these artists, and usually it's the title listed...in my experience anyway.
The only one I have is Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine and REM - Out of Time. The only other artists I have a disc by is Pearl Jam. I think my CD collection doesn't properly represent the musicians I like. I have a tendency to go balls out on lesser known bands and but multiple titles, e.g. Cake, Toad The Wet Sprocket, The Tragically Hip, Mark Eitzel and others.
