Where possible, I have tried to avoid duplicate entries across my lists (so while a movie might be both "recommended" and a "sleeper", it would only go on one of those lists). This list gave me some trouble though, as I think "rewatchable" movies should get a special note, so I had to duplicate some with my "sleepers" list.

* These movies are our toddler's favorites, so you know I've rewatched them over and over and over and over and over . . . And yet I still find stuff to enjoy in them. Of course, Mary Poppins is a classic, but Elmo in Grouchland is surprisingly good. Could Mandy Patinkin be any cooler?

Citizen Kane can be watched and rewatched. Every time it is fascinating.

Yeah, I just have a feeling that if I owned it, I'd rarely be in the mood to rewatch it. But with the other movies on this list, I can happily plunk down in front of them on any given night.

Well, a year and a half after this post, I suppose I'll reply. CK can be less re-watchable [lost in the semantics yet?] due to the length. Just like Godfather, *great* movie, but who wants to spend 3+ hrs to watch it again? It's hard to watch more than once every 6-9 months...

I've only known one or two other people who've even heard of Cold Comfort Farm. I've got a copy so have rewatched it several times.

"I saw something nasty in the woodshed." Yes, I agree that Cold Comfort Farm is an underrated British comedy. Most people shy away from British comedies because they either believe that they won't understand the dialogue or they believe that British humor is too culturally different. It finally took a movie like Full Monty to open people's eyes. However, if Full Monty were an American film, it would have grossed over $100 million like American Pie did.

Good point. I do take some consolation in the fact that American Pie wasn't nominated for an Oscar.

what about Life Of Brian

While I like select Monty Python sketches, I've generally liked the individual actors' post-Python work better (Gilliam's directing, and John Cleese in general). By the time I saw The Holy Grail, I'd already heard all the best quotes a billion times, so it didn't do anything for me. I preferred Life of Brian, but still wasn't quite in the right mood at the time, I think. I have been meaning to watch it again. If I can ever get around to it, I might end up adding it to this list. Time will tell . . .

I think you're also forgetting about movies with a twist at the end [see my list about that :P ], which you have to watch and re-watch to enjoy the meat of the movie. Fight Club, Usual Suspects, and the like.

It's a dilemma - I'm sure the movies you've mentioned would be highly rewatchable. But I've been limiting this list to those movies that I've actually rewatched, and therefore am certain of their rewatchability. I might have to break down and start putting in movies I intend to buy because I know I'd rewatch them.

How bout Pulp Fiction??

My list would include Groundhog Day. Also Goodfellas, Raising Arizona and The Last Seduction. Linda Fiorentino is my all time favorite movie *itch. That would make a great list.

Cool. I'm happy to report that Galaxy Quest just made the list. Have it on tape now, and we've watched it three times since Christmas.
