- 1. Pink Floyd Fearless : This song from their album Meddle, is their greatest song. It has such a great guitar chord progression and beautiful vocal melodies. The song is contagious, and mesmerizing. If you havent heard this, check out Pink Floyd's Meddle album. It also appears on Works.
- 2. The Beach Boys God Only Knows The vocal layers here in tandom with the instrumentation, make this song one of the truly great love songs ever recorded. The words though melancholic, are spoken with a tenderness and restraint only some artists could only dream of obtaining.
- 3. Cyndi Lauper Time After Time This song is Lauper's best, proving her talent as a songwriter and showing she can do more than "have fun". Another great love song that sounds very personal and final.
- 4. The Left Bank Pretty Ballerina This is the greatest song ever recorded. Period. Nothin can compare to this song. Steve Martin's vocals are hypnotic, the string arrangement compliments an energetic yet subdued rhythm section, and the lyrics are possibly the best I've ever heard.
- 5. Procol Harum Salty Dog This underrated band cut masterpiece after masterpiece, and this is the grand daddy of them all. A soft song that plays with such an underlying energy it never releases. On the surface it may seem to be a love song, but it is so much more.

I numbered them for reference only. There really is no order here.

God Only Knows is one of my favourite songs EVER. I liked your list...
