The Great Punk Rock Slash Post-Punk Albums

Tags:
  • 1)London Calling/ The Clash (1979) One of the final "true" punk releases. The 80's inevitably spawned new wave which later turned white-washed jeans into a fad.
  • 2)Horses/ Patti Smith (1976) One of the lone female crusaders of the CBGB.
  • 3)The Clash/ The Clash (1977) My favorite of the '77 punk wave.
  • 4)Unknown Pleasures/ Joy Division (1979) A fresh style and direction for punk, massively influental.
  • 5)Ramones/ Ramones (1976) Probably deserves a higher spot, considered by many to be the very first punk rock album.
  • 6)Let It Be/ The Replacements (1984) A glorious album, the classic of the 80's underground.
  • 7)Entertainment!/ Gang of Four (1979)
  • 8)Rocket to Russia/ Ramones (1977) An unstoppable monster, the Ramones real blitzkrieg.
  • 9)Double Nickels on the Dime/ Minutemen (1984)
  • 10)Never Mind the Bollocks...Here's the Sex Pistols/ Sex Pistols (1977)
  • 11)Milo Goes to College/ Descendents (1982) My favorite of the SST era.
  • 12)Pink Flag/ Wire (1977)
  • 13)Zen Arcade/ Husker Du (1984)
  • 14)In Utero/ Nirvana (1993) Underrated, unsurpassed in the grunge era.
  • 15)Marquee Moon/ Television (1977)
  • 16)Damaged/ Black Flag (1981)
  • 17)Singles Going Steady/ Buzzcocks (1979) Intensely catchy and power-pop in it's origins.
  • 18)Meat Puppets II/ Meat Puppets (1983)
  • 19)Los Angeles/ X (1980)
  • 20)Complete Discography/ Minor Threat (1988)
  • 21)Blank Generation/ Richard Hell & The Voidoids (1977)
  • 22)Tim/ The Replacements (1985)
  • 23)Psychocandy/ The Jesus and Mary Chain (1985)
  • 24)Dookie/ Green Day (1994)
  • 25)New Day Rising/ Husker Du (1985)

I suppose Talking Heads and R.E.M. are technically post-punk, but I don't think they belong on this list.

Minor Threat gets put on this list or else! Else what you ask, use your imagination! :?)

They're really good.

Did you read this list?
They are surely on there. That is a great album.

Woopsy. You rock, good choice. I honestly didn't see it there, hidden in the ranks. I think I'll slink away now.

:%)

Beautiful list.

Thanks alot.
I'd like to see a similar list from yourself.

Husker Du: Zen Arcade is very much in need of a re-mastering. I listen as best I can but the wind-tunnel effect just irritates me.

I have spotted one of my favorites that isn't on this list: Wire: Pink Flag, any reason for not including it?

O nevermind. I think it's time I went and got some glasses. Yikes.

interesting list it is, very much of a mixed bag... and definitely lacking Suicide by Suicide... may I invite you to take a look at this ?

Did you consider Stiff Little Fingers' Inflammable Material, The Saints' I'm Stranded, or X-Ray Spex's Germ-Free Adolescents? All of these would at least be in my top twenty, if not top ten.

I do love seeing London Calling, Unknown Pleasures, Singles Going Steady, Meat Puppets II, Psychocandy, and Los Angeles here in paticular.

And I agree about Suicide's Suicide: simply one of the best ever; have you heard it?

Johnny Waco

I'd love to hear it and the Stiff Little Fingers.

I completely agree with JohnnyW re Stiff Little Fingers. They have a live show arranged for 1st May in Birmingham-UK (with &nbsp the Buzzcocks, &nbsp plus The Stranglers), which I'm very tempted to book. &nbsp I saw the Buzzcocks locally where I live on Sunday night (3rd April) and they were awesome.

Stiff Little Fingers and the Buzzcocks - now booked - 1st May in Birmingham.

For anyone who loves Stiff Little Fingers first album, Inflammable Material, I can also recommend their second album, 'Nobody's Heroes' which is very nearly as good.
