"Eight Men Out", featuring Ray Liotta and Jon Cusack among others, the story of the 1919 Chicago Black Sox scandal, I believe was one of the better baseball movies ever made.

Ditto "A League of Their Own". Jon Lovitz' fifteen minutes in that movie had me crying the first time I saw it, I was laughing so hard.

I've always loved "Major League" as a stupid, don't have to think too much, comemdy.

"The Longest Yard" is probably my favorite football-flavored movie.

I didnt think of The Longest Yard. You are right its great.

I avoided Eight Men Out for the longest time because I thought it would be boring. I really felt like an idiot when I finally saw it and realized what I'd been missing. Fine movie. Of course, it's hard to go wrong with John Sayles.

But in my estimation Bull Durham wins the "best baseball movie" award.

I don't know, a lot of competition in baseball movies:
Eight Men Out
Field of Dreams
The Natural
Pride of the Yankees

Yes indeed, bunches of really good baseball movies. Man I like Field Of Dreams and Bang The Drum Slowly

I'm surprised to see He Got Game on here. I haven't seen it, but it was roundly panned. Come to think of it, I can't name a good basketball movie . . . Blue Chips , anyone? :-) Oh wait - Hoosiers was quite good.

Jim, He Got Game wa s great. It was an good story and it wa swell crafted.

Ugh! I forgot Bull Durham, my all-time favorite sports-movie!

Also, how could I forget Caddyshack? That movie was a staple in college, watched so often we wore it out.

Two impressive movies. I like Caddyshack better, It makes me cry.
