#4 and #5 aren't really great, but I had to name five.

Hmmm, 4 and 5 are actually my favorites on this list!

The Abyss ain't bad, and Titanic has some merit, but I admit to hating, hating, hating True Lies. I hope to never see it again.

I believe Cameron is a pretty good director; I just wish he would stop believing that he is a pretty good writer. James, use co-writers again!

Yeah, if I were to reorder this list it'd go something like: [1] Aliens, [2] Terminator, [3] Terminator 2, [4] The Abyss, [5] Titanic, [6] True Lies. I haven't seen Piranha 2 or Xenogenesis. With his dominance of my top four, one way to look at would be that Michael Biehn is the real genius, and T2 was a fluke. :-) BTW, The Abyss would have been rated much higher (perhaps 2!) if not for the gawdawful ending (I've seen the director's cut ending too, and it's a bit better, but not much).

I can't say that I like James Cameron. I thought the acting and script in the Abyss were ridiculous. Didn't enjoy Titanic either. Of the rest I think True Lies is a great movie, although the original French movie is slightly better. Terminator 2 is a classic by now, while Aliens bothered me because it contrasted so much from the first in the series.

I didn't know True Lies was based on a French movie; can you tell me what it was called?

While not really a straight remake, True Lies certainly took a lot from the French comedy La Totale.

I have to believe the directors cut of The Abyss is his best work. I love True Lies and Titanic. Titanic is a bit mushy, and Aliens is barely good.

I'm with you, jblack: the director's cut of THE ABYSS is Cameron's best. And, with lbangs (whose taste is exemplary, except in the case of Mel Brooks's comedies), I detest TRUE LIES.

I can't remember. I'm gonna try and find out and I'll let you know

The Abyss directors cut is his best film , no doubt! Bertie, read my review on True Lies and tell me what you think.

Hey hey jblack . . . A prolific poster like yourself really should use links. It would make it so much easier just to jump right to the review in question.

I am just now getting the hang of doing that. I am going to do it, Jim. I'm a little hesitant. Notice on the editor page it took me three times to post the link in that.
