They exist; I've seen their names in magazines or on concert notices, but I've never heard any of their music. REO Speed dealer had to change their name apparently when the real REO sued them. Sweet!

Obviously there's a theme here. But your title suggests any cool band name should work, so I must say that I think Save Ferris is a great name.

i just ran across a band: cadillac voodoo choir. that's got a lot of personality, no?
That is definitely a cool name! For some reason it evokes the Southwestern U.S. to me (like Arizona or something). Visions of old caddys driving through the mystical desert or something. Have any idea where they're from?

well i did a bit o' research and found their publicity page... and it turns out they hail from atlanta, GA and austin, TX. and surprisingly enough, the description of them sounds rather appealing: "southern roots with a dose of gospel, velvety 5 part vocal harmonies, and R&B." hmmmmm
ran across another band called Quit Hitting Me. that's just darn funny.
What in the world?! Where do you keep hearing these names?! Are these bands you've started yourself or something? OK, I like that name as well; I'll just have to add it :)

nope, im not making these up... i usually see them when im doing some insane searches on UBL or something. there are a lot of semi-amusing ones, but i try to pass on just the cream of the crop. :)
I appreciate the cream of the crop; they're certainly good. Speaking of internet music resources, have you ever checked out the All Music Guide (allmusic.com)? They have great bios and detailed album reviews for just about any artist I could ever think of. At times, I have been certifiably addicted to the site and its print companion! (of course, I'm also susceptible to obsessions of various kinds:)
