These are a few of the lesser known artists and bands that I've discovered that are definitely worth getting to know. (Listed in no particular order)

Couldn't say whether they're anything like what you've listed, but try Eddie from Ohio. They're my newest dircovery and really entertaining. The onyl accurate description I've seen of their style is alternative folk. They've even got a train song (lyric - "gotta have a folk song about a train").
I've seen Eddie from Ohio on the calendar for one of the local venues for folk music and such, but haven't had a chance to get to see them yet. I am keeping an eye out though. Thanks!
I think I've heard of Utah Phillips. Didn't he do an album with Ani DiFranco?
Yep. I've heard of Ani DiFranco, but am not familiar with her music.
