Suggestions welcome.

Black Robe. Good movie. Thanks for reminding me!
The Crucible (1996, 17th century) wasn't too bad, although it'll make your list a bit Daniel Day-Lewis heavy.
I haven't seen any of them, but by many accounts all the Columbus movies stink. I only mention them because they immediately leapt to mind and blotted out almost everything else.
Ditto on Black Robe. A couple more pre-1776 movies definitely worth watching: Fast Runner (2001) and Nanook of the North (1922). Both are set in Canada.
Your suggestions are very welcome.
I have to acknowlege a European cultural bias in my list as it is up to this point. There's no reason that can't change, however. The Fast Runner looks like a very worthwhile movie and I thank you for drawing my attention to it. I don't know if I can get hold of it - I'd like to. It's going on the list.
I had heard of Nanook of the North before. It's a documentary, made in 1922, so I don't see how it could be set before 1776. I need more convincing on this one.
Silly me. What was I thinking? There is even a phonograph or Victrola in Nanook of the North.
