My birthday is later this month, and it's always fun to see how much free stuff you can acquire. :-)
In each case, all you have to do is go to chain's website and join their email list. For Dairy Queen, join the Blizzard Fan Club. Some arrive at the beginning of the month, others a week before the birthday, and all are good for at least two weeks. YMMV.
Also, Hollywood Video will give you a free "Film Library" rental on your birthday (though a sympathetic employee may let you get a new release instead). Make sure they have your birth date on file.
