- "La Separation" -- French movie made in 1994 about a couple's relationship swiftly falling apart.
- "Marius" -- French movie from the 1940's
- "The Inheritors" -- Austrian Movie that won at the 1998 New York Film Festival
- "Les Amants" (The Lovers) -- French Film from the 1950's or 1960's
- "Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown" -- Spanish movie from the early 90's
- "Babette's Feast" -- I think it's French. It's based on Isak Dinesen's short fiction piece of the same name.
- "Life is Beautiful" -- I can't remember how to spell the director's name off hand, but I'm sure everyone has heard of it. I loved it. I heard that they have come out w/ an English version. Don't watch that. You have to see the one in Italian for the full effect!
- "Waking Ned Divine" -- An Irish film about a man who dies after winning the lotto, and the local townspeople go about collecting the money. I couldn't stop laughing!
- "Raise the Red Lantern" - A Chinese film that someone recommended to me on the list. I've seen it three times already.
- "Cabaret Balkan" - A Yugoslavian film about social unrest in Yugoslavia during Milosevic's rule. It was really quite interesting, and I undertood a couple dirty words that my grandmother would say when I was little. Apparently Yugolavs and Czechs have the same words for certain body parts.

You should definitely try Raise the Red Lantern starring Gong Li and directed by Zhang Yimou. I must warn you though, it is not light fare.
I did see Raise the Red Lantern. TWICE! It was amazing! Thanks for the input!
you absolutely must see Il Postino and Raise the Red Lantern.... Life is Beautiful was such a stirring movie!
