- Menace II Society+ (1993) 3 (I really have mixed feelings about this film. It's complicated, but after viewing this specifically for academic reasons instead of friends dragging me to it... I definitely see more in this film now. Stellar acting by Larenz Tate, for one. And definite social critiques. It's not simply "let's show some hard, real ghetto thugs and show how it is". I won't throw this film out just because of all the foul language and crass violence.)

No heresy involved -- "Sweetback" is a lousy movie.
It wasn't completely lousy, but I totally didn't get all the hype. Maybe it's one of those films where you had to be around and involved at the time it was made. And maybe I just saw a bad copy, but the image quality was indeed lousy-- even for a no-budget film.
