I'm sorry to disappoint you, but Ginostra is just lame imo. It has some "plain bad" scenes, but they are few, and I wouldn't watch the film, if you want an entertaining bad film.
I love Harvey Keitel, like Andie McDowell and Asia Argento, thought that some ideas for the film were great, the concept was good, but the result is a terrible mess. Nothing worthwhile besides some nice photography...
It's really lame.

Spring, Summer, Fall, Witer,... and Spring, could've been one of the films made for me.
I love slow pacing, little dialogue, beautiful scenery's and philosophical "background", but the film had imo a very reactonary message I don't approve of, and though I'm no buddhist, and don't know too much about the religion, I thought that the supposed "master" (the old guy) who should have instructed the boy (main protagonist), was an idiot, unworthy of his "title", and the main reason why the protagonist made lots of mistakes during his life.
The final image suggested, that this will repeat in the future, and if the director disapproves of this (which I hope), it is nevertheless a too bleak and nihilistic view of the world.
To make a whole film about this, is imo cynical.
If the director on the other hand "approves" of the old man's methods, and of what he presents on screen, than I'm sorry for him, but it doesn't make the film any better.

Is the 90 minute version even available? Supposedly, Craven cut some from the theatrical version, and it looks like the 83/84 minute versions are the common versions out there.

I saw the 84 minute version not long ago and thought it was pretty good, despite the acting being less than stellar and somewhat cheesy. I can't imagine it without all the juicy stuff in it though.

I didn't give "The Flat" a rating, because I saw it at 7 in the morning, without a minute of sleep, and I was also stoned. But I think very highly of it. A great allegory on the state in Czechoslovakia in the 60's and the repression they had to endure. But I have it on my PC, and I'll soon watch it again. I suppose I'm gonna rate it *** / **** or higher.
I've also Faust by Svankmajer on my viewing log, and it was a great piece of surrealism. My favorite is still "Dimensions of Dialogue". But I need to see more of Svankmajer.

That`s just a reminder, as I`m now on holidays for over a month, and apparently haven`t enough time to update regularly. And throughout September I probably won`t be able to access the internet anymore. But I promise on everything that`s holy, that I`ll make a proper update in october at the latest :-)
The short films are from libraries (compilations), from individual DVDs offered as "by-products", from film school screening(s), and maybe something from the old days, when i taped movies from TV (though I`ve thrown most of my 400 4hour videocassettes in the garbage).

Nothing! And why should I hate it?? I rated it **3/4 / **** which is pretty good. And Godard is one of my all-time favorite directors. Is my rating system really that hard to understand?

I liked the Music of Breathless the most. It was emotionally overwhelming.
