Film Whores - Actors and Actresses Appearing in Way Too Many Films Lately

- Robert DeNiro: Remember when a DeNiro film used to be an event, when he'd make a film every two or three years? Suddenly, Bobby D's become Mr. Prolific. Nowadays, as long as there's a paycheck involved (granted, it's to fund his TriBeCa films production company), he'll gladly mumble and self-pariodize his way through such winners as "15 Minutes", "Flawless", "Men of Honor" and the recent abomination "Showtime". Yeah, so "Meet the Parents" was funny, as was "Analyze This". Guess what...the sequels are coming!
- Anthony Hopkins: Christ, have you seen the preview for "Bad Company", co-starring the outrageously unfunny Chris Rock (how this guy got this far on so little baffles me)? Makes me want to run out and see the new "Scooby-Doo" horror show instead. Sir Tony's just been demonstrating desperately little restraint in his film choices lately, attaching himself to projects he shouldn't have been in the first place. Too much of Anthony Hopkins is a bad thing lately.
- Woody Allen: Seriously, what was the last good film he directed or starred in? Anyone? Worse yet, he's repeating himself.
- Angelina Jolie: "Tomb Raider"??? "Original Sin" (wow, that was a BAD film)? I haven't seen her latest effort, but that's got a July video release to your latest Blockbuster written all over it. Not that she's a great actress, because she isn't, but bad films plus no acting range equals an entry on this list.
- Samuel L. Jackson: Has anyone seen the trailer for "SWAT"? Holy s**t, this heap of crap has flies swarming all over it. Sam's career has also taken a crap, and while I'm at it...
- Colin Farrell: Is he in every film lately? I'm surprised he didn't find a role in something like "The Hours" or worse yet, "Terminator 3". He needs to take a break, I think.

This isn't to say that appearing in a multitude of films in a short period is a bad thing, as witnessed by the stellar acting Cate Blanchett displayed in 4 films in 2001. But it seems to me that great actors and actresses are lately willing to sleepwalk their way through a score of bad films lately, for no reason other than a big payday.

Good list! Agreed on all counts. I've felt that way about DeNiro for quite some time, and there are some serious Hearts of Atlantis haters here on the Hopkins front. I feel like there are other candidates for this list that are right on the tip of my tongue. There was awhile there when you couldn't get away from Samuel L. Jackson, but most of the movies he made through that stretch were decent enough. Ben Affleck might work, but I'm not sure if he's good enough for it to be remarkable that he's been in lots of mediocre movies lately. I'll have to think on this some more.
Hearts in Atlantis must die. Coaxing a bad performance out of Anthony Hopkins is reason enough, but introducing the world to not just one, but an entire cast of bad child actors is punishable by death.
I agree. "Hearts in Atlantis" was completely unwatchable. My mother, who rarely goes to the movies anymore, walked out on this one.
I actually was one of the few people that preferred the movie to the book, isn't that odd? I thought his performance was fine, though I didn't image Hopkins playing Ted from the book. Still I enjoyed it for some reason, guess I prefer King's more humanistic stories to his horror one's. But I totally agree about the De Niro being in way too many movies by the way you left two stinkers out, City by the Sea which was an emotionally charged piece of excrement to put it lightly and of course my favorite disappointment The Score.
I really didn't like The Score either. Such a letdown given the cast! About the only thing I liked was the safe-cracking method.
