Author Comments:

(aka Future Films For Forward Focused Film Fanatics & Fanciers)

I've been looking forward to Impostor too, but the studio seems awfully reluctant to release it, so I'm beginning to suspect that it's dreadful.

Jim, the funny thing about Impostor is this. Originally it was supposed to be one of three vignettes within one film. Mirimax liked the initial short film so much they decided to break-out Impostor and expand it to be it's own feature length film and then, dum-dum, they never released it! Unless they screwed it up incredibly in the scripting or editing stages I don't see how it can be that bad.

It's based on a Philip K. Dick story, directed by Gary Fleder and written by Scott Rosenberg (who collaborated on one of my favorite films Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead), and starring Gary Sinise and Madeline Stowe. It's got to be better than Red Planet, right? And that was a theatrical release.

I actually remember seeing a preview for it when I saw Reindeer Games probably 18 months ago.

I personally don't care what they do with it. They've dicked around so long that unless it gets raving reviews I probably won't see it in the theater. All I ask is that they just release the damn thing! I hate it when movies get buried like this.

BTW, did you ever see the unreleased Fantastic Four movie?

Your comments on Impostor jibe with what I've read. I'm still looking forward to it . . . on video.

I don't think I've ever seen an unreleased movie. How is such an oxymoronic thing possible? :-)

Re: FF. A long time ago a friend of mine had a bootleg video copy of the Fantastic Four movie which was produced by Roger Corman. Here is the IMDB entry for it...

The movie was bought by some other big studio wich wanted to put out there own version of it. I don't know exactly how that worked from a legal standpoint but the movie was never released theatrically or in any format. I've been reading some stuff lately about a number of movies that have been produced in recent years and never released. Sound like a good topic for a list. :-)

Another one that spring to mind is For The Cause. It's supposed to be a decent film but again Miramax owns the right and hasn't released it yet. And of course there's the Jerry Lewis concentration camp/clown movie The Day The Clown Cried which was never released.

So was the FF movie any good?

"No", he said, 20 months later.

Hey, Jim! According to Yahoo! Movies it looks like Impostor (2001) is finally set to be released on Christmas Day 2001.

What a great cast! I wish all the delays to date didn't fill me with trepidation...

If you take a look at the IMDB entry it looks as if the movie may have been edited and then re-rated from an R to a PG-13, probably to open it up to younger viewers.

I saw Amelie tonight and it was WONDERFUL.

Kristin, I'm very glad to hear that. I have not heard a single bad thing about this film!

Dan I think Darren Aronofsky is directing Batman : Year One.

I haven't been able to obtain much news on Desperation. IMDB.com has very little. Do you have any info on it? When is it supposed to be released and what not. Are you familiar with the Stephen King book? Its one of my very favorites by him. If you are familiar with it, who do you think would play Collie Entragion?

I think Desperation is in Development Hell. It's been a long time since I read the novel but if Collie Entragion is the sheriff character then he was supposedly going to be played by Nick Nolte.

"The Hours" is generally a good movie with references to Virginia Woolf and her novel Mrs Dalloway and how the novel could affect and influence peoples actions and emotions. The public face and the private face and how we deal with both. with good perfomances from Ed Harris, Julieanne Moore and (though i never thought i would say this after her "Lady Macbeth" in "The Others") Nicole Kidman as Virginia Woolf etc. the movement back and forward through time is not only clear but really holds your attention and lets the films images haunt you. there are a few tricks that we have seen before in different guises but overall its a good film... until you get meryl streep's performance which is pretty lazy and flaccid, The way the piece interweaves sections this could be the make or break of the whole film. The rest of the cast work hard but with the complex nature of the film Ms Streep's performance could be its sticking point.

Dear, E,
I appreciate the feedback on my list but if you want to write a full-fledged mini-review of a film I'd prefer you placed it under your own content.

Thanks, Much!
Dan

i heard that there will be a film coming out in the summer of 2003 called 'the haunted boat' either directed or produced by wes craven.

if any one can confirm this and also who the leading female role is i would be very greatful.

I couldn't find anything on his official site about it.

Oops, pressed post too soon...

But there is a film coming out this fall called Ghost Ship directed by Steve Beck (Thirteen Ghosts). This almost has to be the movie you're thinking of. It's not produced by Wes Craven however. The leading female fole is played by Julianna Margulies.

is the leading role english?

the reason i ask all of this is because i am from england and in my college a girl has said that she went to LA in the summer, went to a party in Bel Air, met Wes Craven, he asked her to audition, she got the leading part and they completely changed the script because she couldnt do an american acent.

i am trying to find out if this is true or not, however, i do not know her name.

if anyone can prove or disprove i would be very greatful but thanks also for replys so far.

The lead role in Ghost Ship is American.

Also, Wes is supposedly making the video game of American McGee's Alice into a movie. But I've been hearing rumors about that for awhile. The lead role in that would most likely be English. And since it's a horror film of sorts there could be a "haunted boat" in the movie. But Alice is not strictly about a haunted boat.
