Author Comments:
More to come, if I feel like it.
Sorry some of these are pretty boring choices (The Kinks or Stevie Wonder, for example), but I tried to be as honest about my own preferences as possible.
By the way, I reserve the right to change my mind. I didn't want to put any ties on here, but some of these are VERY close calls.

"Born to Run" was the first Springsteen song I fell in love with, but I think I've actually found a song by the Boss I like better, from repeated listens of The Wild, The Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle. Only after listening to the song three or four times did I realize that it's actually a fan favorite that some critics have called the greatest rock song of all-time, but somehow I went all this time without hearing "Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)."
It's a quality song, all right, though I'm not sure anything will ever displace "Born to Run" for me.
Lots of great choices here - I'm pleased we seem to agree on BNL's finest hour, "Life in a Nutshell", and naturally I love your picks for The Shins, TMBG, Billy Joel, R.E.M., etc.
It was a tough decision. I guess the more personal elements of the song appealed to me a bit more than "Born to Run," which purports to speak for a generation. I tend to like more personal, emotional stories better than anthems, but that's just a vague general rule, since "Born to Run" is still one of my favorite songs.
Thanks for your comments, and glad you love many of my selections!
