You're hurting my feelings here, Johnny. Wings, but no Metropolis?
I'm going to cry.
And not to be too picky, but despite what the All Movie Guide claims, All Quiet on the Western Front is one of the earliest sound films, not a true silent at all (unless you are thinking a version older than the 1930 which I don't know about, which is always possible).
Yikes! I knew I'd miss something, and Metropolis was it. I'll add it post-haste. I also kept second guessing whether or not All Quiet was sound or silent because it had been several years since I saw it, and only images from it came to mind, not words. You guessed it: I used AllMovie guide to confirm the truth...
I actually need to revise this list because a couple of other movies would sneak in, but probably not Potemkin or The Gold Rush--I like both, but neither would make my top ten.

Shalom, y'all!

Johnny Waco
I have seen but not heard (ha ha) one, four, and part of seven.
Must say the civil war in Birth of a Nation was longer than the actual civil war, wasn't it?
Interesting list.
I still have the 4-hour-version of Greed on tape.
I have only seen three movies here.
The General: Probably the best silent film I have seen.
Nosferatu: Excellent.
Metropolis: Overrated. Very well-done, but that awful ending...
Still I miss some of the usual suspects such as Battleship Potemkin and The Gold Rush.

And I'm jealous over your Greed!
Johnny Waco
The GOLD Rush --> Perhaps I'm a pretty Greedy person. :)
In that case, silence is GOLDen...
