Note that there are many different sub-genres of "Comedy"...but then again, you knew that was coming, right?
Well, I actually managed to pick one for each category. So the first movie in each genre is my favorite, and the other(s) is/are honorable mention(s). I also eliminated movies that I don't really truly love (even though there are some on here that I don't really love because I haven't seen enough movies in the genre - i.e., "Get Bruce!").

Oh, God! Your favorite silent movie is Modern Times????
I know we had our discussion about this, but I didn't know that it was your favorite silent movie!!!!
I don't even think it's fully a 'silent,' but geez... better than The General? Safety Last? Not to mention all the great dramas of the silent era.
And, I wouldn't call Terminator 2 horror at all, but it is my favorite action movie.
BTW, have you seen The Road Warrior? I can't believe it's held in similar esteem to the first two Terminator movies or Die Hard.
The truth is that this list is really old, and partially outdated. I made it before I had seen pretty much any silent dramas (except maybe for The Jazz Singer; I definitely hadn't seen The Passion of Joan of Arc or The Battleship Potemkin, both of which I really loved). As for The General, I saw it once a long time ago, and while I did enjoy it quite a bit, I found it a bit disappointing considering the heaps and heaps of praise it has garnered. I do, however, really need to watch that movie again.
I don't know if I should even include "silent" on this list. It's not really a genre. Maybe if I were to update this list, I would do away with the category entirely.
That having been said, Modern Times might still get the spot for my personal favorite silent movie. I do really love that film. I think a good handful of the scenes are uproariously funny, and it's a great satire of the capitalist and technological structures of our society, with a lot of hope involved.
As for horror, the problem was that I had actually seen very few traditional horror movies at the time I made this list. Today, I would probably give the title to a film that is more accurately described as horror. Would you call Silence of the Lambs a horror movie? That might take my horror spot today.
I have not seen The Road Warrior.
Okay.
And Silence of the Lambs is MUCH closer to horror than Terminator 2. Terminator 2 is a straight-up sci-fi action film. But, when I think of horror, I think of Exorcist, Romero's 'Dead' series, The Shining, etc. Things like Silence of the Lambs, to me, is more like 'thriller,' and The Sixth Sense would be 'suspense.' But I suppose everyone has their own dividing lines.
Yeah. I tend to think of horror as that too. I haven't seen The Exorcist or any Romero. I have seen The Shining, but IMHO, Silence of the Lambs is just a better movie. How about Alien? I really liked that movie. That might get my vote if Silence is too far off. But really, I guess I'm just not a big fan of the genre in general (hence, my pick of T2).
Yup, Silence is a better movie. Alien is usually considered horror, yes. I'm also not a big fan of the genre either, though the Exorcist was good. And, I'm not sure if The Bad Seed qualifies.
