Alphabetically sorted.

There are many films I need to see again to affirm my love for them before they make this list.

And, my favorites will probably always favor recent, English-language films because it takes less work for me to enjoy those.

cool you like The Sixth Sense (1999) , your views on Unbreakable / signs / Village?

Unbreakable was a lot of fun, Signs was perhaps a little better constructed and just as fun. Haven't seen the Village.

What is it you like about Elephant?

Because it more closely related to my own experience than any other film I've seen, it seemed to me the most realistic film I have ever seen. There were literally have a dozen moments of acute deja-vu I had while watching it. Several pieces of various scenes seemed to replay moments of my own life, including the exact words said and the rhythm with which they were said. I'm sure there are other films that speak more closely to other people's life experience, but this one hit me DEAD ON. And I never even attended a public high school, studied photography, or lived through a school shooting.

When usually have spoken of a film being realistic, I meant something entirely different than the level of realism this film achieved (again, for me).

Besides that, it was a powerful story, well-told, without going 'over the top' (i.e. most of the deaths happen out of focus or off-screen, etc.) A very artful film, a very real film, a very emotionally engaging film. What more can I ask?

It felt very accurate to me, too.
