Although I may have enjoyed my favorite losing nominees more, in most cases I think the Academy Award winner was the better picture. I've noted exceptions with single digits in parentheses where I thought my favorite loser was also the better picture: (1) JFK better than Silence of the Lambs; (2) My Left Foot better than Born on the Fourth of July; (3) Turning Point better than Annie Hall; (4) All the President's Men better than Rocky; (5) Doctor Zhivago better than Sound of Music.

Hi JB,
Really enjoyed your list. Hey, Ghost was good, no apologies needed. But JFK??? OK, I didn't see it, so pls convince me. And Witness for the Prosecution has to be one of the all-time best!
Auntie M.
Actually, I like Field of Dreams, My Left Foot, Born on the Fourth of July, and countless others than the real academy winner, Driving Miss Daisy. Other comments:
1957- toss-up between River Kwai and WftP
1982- ET definitely instead of Ghandi, although Hollywood was still jealous of Spielberg
1962- TKaM is great, but I LOVE Lawrence of Arabia
1964- Strangelove without a doubt instead of My Fair Lady
1988- Dangerous Liaisons instead of Rainman
1990- I really like Dances With Wolves, and I would have thrown my tv out a window if Ghost won.
Just my opinion. Great idea for a list.
