  • That one with the guy who goes to prison, has his legs tied to big weights, and becomes so strong that when the weights are finally removed, he can escape from oppression
  • That one where the brash student has a fight with his teacher in the museum, and they try to beat each other up without breaking anything.
  • That one with that escaped convict (good guy) that wanders into an oppressed town and eventually frees it. I think he would comb his hair and break the comb before beating somebody up, and I also think he could throw coins with fairly devastating effect (I might be combining multiple movies in my mind).

The movies below the line are "Kung Fu Theater" entries. As such I saw them when I was pretty young, and have no idea if I'd like them now. And I have no idea what the titles of those last 3 are. Can anybody help? Or can you think of other fun 1970s Hong Kong movies?

Jim, wish I could help you with this, but I havn't seen very many kung-fu flicks. I've seen all of Bruce Lee's, and my favorite of his (the title escapes me) is the one in which he fights Chuck Norris in the Colosseum in Rome. I especially like when he rips out some of Norris's body-hair and blows it off his fingers.

From an IMDb search, I think it was Game of Death. I remember liking that one too.

Oops! Return of the Dragon looks like a better guess.

You got it this time. But I saw it under one of its alternate titles: WAY OF THE DRAGON. I would place ENTER THE DRAGON second-favorite - I refer to it in commenting on this list. Too bad this guy is so standoffish.

What did you think of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon? It's a wuxia film, so I don't know if that falls in the kung-fu category or not...

I'm sure I'll love it, but I live in the sticks so it hasn't come here yet. And it would qualify - I should probably rename this list to "Favorite Martial Arts Movies".
