I know I make this recommendation on pretty much every "foreign movies" list that excludes it, but if you haven't already, you should rent Raise the Red Lantern. Perhaps my favorite non-US movie. Not light fare though.

Thanks, Jim, I'll check it out. Who directed it/where from?

It's a Chinese movie, and Zhang Yimou directed it. Let me know what you think!

You should see "Amelie", if you haven't already seen it, maybe you just didn't like it. I've been dying to see the red, white, and blue trilogy, but i can't find it anywhere. also you should check out some movies by federico fellini and ingmar bergman.

So yeah, there are a lot of suggestions here but another you might want to check out is "Y Tu Mama Tambien" which recently came out. The star was also in "Amorres Peros" which is another Mexican film I recommend.

Yeah, I've seen both and I dig Gael Garcia Bernal (he's under my favorite actors list, Amores Perros is under my favorite movies list, and Y Tu Mama Tambien is under my watched this year list, but I forgot to put it on this list!) Amores Perros is amazing. Yu Tu Mama Tambien was great, also, even though it was borderline soft core porn. Any other Mexican movies you recommend?

YOU SHOULD CHECK OUT SANTA SANGRE AND 7TH SEAL.

You must check out a Korean fild called - Oldboy. It'll figure in your list too!
