my definition of comedy is a bit broad.

I've never seen Futurama. How does it stack up with The Simpsons?

More sight gags and non sequiturs. The animation is better, but I guess that doesn't make for a better comedy.

It's definitely less satirical. Sometimes, they'll pull in a joke about the twentieth century, or they'll introduce a character who references today in some way (like The Flintstones used to do, only much funnier).

The show is (was?) centered on the oddball sense of humor, and not necessarily on the futuristic setting, which I found nice. The future just facilitates the funny.

lol "The Simpsons (Up To Season 8)" I think even season 8 is pushing it :) lol na, it was about season 8 that it started to become, well..terrible.

I am shocked at this insubordination! Shocked!

Well, not that shocked. :)

But we all know it was at least season 9 before it went down the pan. You keep your trap shut, Rushmore! ;)

lol :-) hhmmm hoping you wouldn't hear that Anti-Simpsons comment! :() hey, you know that i love sipmsons as much as the next guy, simpsons is the best show ever made, no doubt. Just before season 8 :>) I think it goes like this (IMO):

1 = A Good Starter, New Fresh
2 - 3 = Solid Seasons, still finding it's groove
4-9 = Unstopable greatness, legendary stuff.
10 - 16 = Thin, not enough originality but has it's moments.

Ah! i feel terrible now. you know that i love simpsons and i don't know what the world would be like without it !! "Terrible" was going to far, let's just say "Weaker".

lol i was watching Lemmon of troy on the 6th season DVD, how great is that!!?? i couldn't stop laughing. let me show you why:

"So this is what it feels like when doves cry" -Milhouse

"Is this the untimely end of Milhouse?" -Milhouse

" Run boy he has a taste for meat now!!" - Homer

That episode is outstanding and my favourite of season 6. Milhouse really steals the show. In My Mind there Are 4 American Sitcoms that are all time greats, simpsons is one of them, i'll keep the rest seceret :) so yes simpsons is outstanding, don't get me wrong, i just wished it was still that good.

Yeah, Lemon Of Troy is really great and underrated. Some fantastic lines.

You can't keep anti-Simpsons comments away from me ;) I pretty much agree with your analysis, but for my sake I'll do my own:

S1 - Good but not yet in its' own league
S2 - Improving rapidly
S3-9 - Perfect seasons, barely a dud among them, the best seven seasons of a TV show in television history
S10 - Rapidly getting worse by now
S11-12 - The pits, very poor
S13 - A big improvement, good
S14+ - Levelling out, a new era that divides my opinion
