I feel the same way about "Dhalgren" by Samuel R. Delany. His novel about the comings and goings in a city rebuilding after a war is less a novel with a plot than it is an extended visit with congenial friends in a 70's commune: there's joy and tragedy, luxury and squalor, and always someone to have a cup of tea and tell your troubles to.
