Hmm, as I read this, I notice the absence of three of my favorite films of all time. What do you think of Dr. Strangelove, Breathless, and the Manchurian Candidate? Then there's also Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf and Breakfast at Tiffany's.

Great films. All approached this list. Breathless especially barely missed, and honestly, I hated leaving it out. Great film.

Of the films you mentioned, the one with the least chance was probably Breakfast, a good film, but not one of my absolute favorites. For one thing, Mickey...

I do adore the party scene, though.

Right before I clicked on this list, I thought, "I wonder if he included The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence or The Wild Bunch?" Imagine my pleasure at finding both here, nestled up against each other. And for some reason, I thought that other than Once Upon a Time in the West you didn't care for Westerns: did I just make that up?

Let me throw one out: what about Bonnie and Clyde? Did that one come close to making the cut?

Johnny Waco

You're correct. By and large, I don't care for most westerns. However, the best westerns are terrific. I guess, for me, the genre has no bell curve; I love a few, and really don't care at all for most of the others.

If this list extended to 20, Bonnie and Clyde would most likely find a home here. There were so many I hated to have to leave off. Breathless is probably my number 12 entry, and man, I hate, hate, hate having to skip that one.

An interesting list of great films.
However, I think "Lawrence of Arabia" really deserves to be #1 on this list.

Fair enough, and thanks!

Lawrence is certainly a terrific film, and most of the films near the top are incredibly close. It is very difficult to play favorites with this bunch!
