No, I haven't. I once tried 20'000 Leagues Under the Sea, but after some time I gave time. Then I decided to begin reading Around the World in 80 Days.
The Mysterious Island seems to be one of the less-known works of Jules Verne. Could you roughly tell me what it is about?
It is about a group of people who are caught in a beseiged city during the American Civil War and decide to escape by means of a hot-air balloon. The balloon gets caught in a violent storm and gets swept somewhere in the Pacific and crashes on an unknown island. So it is a castaway story, showing how the scientific knowledge of the castaways allows them to build a new life. Captain Nemo plays a part later on.
