Author Comments:

Believe it or not, Mickey Mouse was not the most prolific Disney character - it was actually Donald Duck!

Donald Duck made his first ever appearance in the 1934 Silly Symphony cartoon The Wise Little Hen, and later that year appeared alongside Mickey Mouse.
While Mickey Mouse was a very popular character, and extremely likeable, he was not intrinsically funny, and in many of his 1930s shorts, his thunder was often stolen by Donald Duck, a character with an angrier and often funnier personality. Soon after, Donald Duck got his own cartoon series, and the Mickey Mouse shorts started to peter out.

"Donald's Ostrich" was the first Donald Duck cartoon in his own series (there were three previous Donald Duck cartoons, but they were originally released as Mickey Mouse shorts: "Donald And Pluto," "Don Donald" and "Modern Inventions").
