To Do Before I Die - circa 2004

- learn to kickbox - ongoing
- learn to belly dance - ongoing
- learn to play electric bass - well, it's not that different from string, so I really need to just own one and play it.
- work for the AAAS
- attend the Big Hair Ball in Houston
- learn some more formal hip hop dancing
- ride a mechanical bull
- Live in Texas again
- get married - eventually, but I've learned there's no rush (and thank goodness I did)
- teach - ongoing
- Get a Fulbright scholarship and study informal science education in other countries
- get a dog (now I have a cat, does that count?)
- have a saltwater aquarium
- work with Bill Nye, the Science Guy
- learn the Atlanta Falcons' "Dirty birdy" touchdown dance
- visit tons of places: Atlanta (went to a convention there, and it looks like any other big city), Seattle, Baltimore (well, I live here now), Wyoming, Idaho, Australia, Russia, Fiji, Chile, etc, etc, etc....
- learn various other languages - need to get back into this again
- learn the hustle
- learn the shag (the dance)
- learn to row (partly done), curl, and sail
- play bike polo
- Things that have dropped off the list:
- go to a drive-in movie - done
- get my Ph.D. - I've got a master's, that's good enough for now, and I'm tired of research. But I do want to continue to take classes.
- have kids - now I'm unsure. Certainly glad I don't have any at the moment.
- go to another Ben Folds Five concert - this will be rather difficult as they have disbanded.
- get my B.S. - done
- own a car - done, though I wish it weren't. owning a car is a big hassle.

well, you can see this is a huge mishmash and in no particular order. but it's interesting to me to see how I've changed even since college. But it's also nice to know I've accomplished at least a few of these things along the way.

You planning on staying in Baltimore for a while? If so, JHU is moved up close to the top for Brian's first post-doc as I'd love to be able to hang out again!

yeah, i thinks so. we'll see, anyway, but I really like the current job. definitely hanging out is in order if ya'll come. guess that means I have to hurry up plans to come visit hawaii!
oops, I guess I missed out on the owning a house by 30 part. Partly it's because the market was way out of whack, partly because I *still* haven't committed to staying in Baltimore (though I'd like to, the job is still sorta unsettled in some ways. I think this should settle out in the next year or so.).
