The 'Rules':

- If you think the book is better than the adaptation for the big screen, then you give 1 point to the book.
- If you think the film is better than the literary work, you give 1 point to the film.
- If book and film are both equal or both good in their own way, you give 0.5 points to each of them.
- Of course, you can suggest books and films.

The Shinning - film (Stanley Kubrick)

can i suggest:
Catch-22 - book (Joseph Heller)
Lolita - book (Vladimir Nabokov)
Animal Farm - book (George Orwell)
Trainspotting - film (Danny Boyle)

Could i suggest Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I'll go with the book over the film.
Book (Douglas Adams)
Film (Garth Jennings)

While I dearly love the books, I'd have to say that each form of HHGtG has had its own charms. I heard the Tertiary Phase of the radio play when it aired on BBC radio last year, and there was a part in it that smoked the book in terms of comic value. The scene in which whathisname accidentally caused himself to be immortal, in an incident involving an elastic band, simply didn't have the same impact on the written page. I laughed uncontrollably when I heard the radio version. Also, in the film, the bit when Ford and Zaphod first see each other after so long and start an elaborate little foot-tapping thing which carries on in the background of an Arthur/Trillian conversation - you just don't get that from the radio version or the books.

I really disliked the film. Apart from one scene the whole thing wasn't funny or interesting.

Difference of opinion, I guess. Each to his own.

Fight Club is the second one where i liked both the book and film. I'll say the book is better than the film though.
Film (David Fincher)
Book (Chuck Palahniuk)
