Cloned From:

What about Peter Jackson? He had a few appearances in Lord of the Rings.
Spike Lee is in every movie he's made.
Here's a list someone else has compiled... http://www.filmsite.org/directorcameos.html
Off the top of my head...Laurence Olivier, Jean-Luc Godard, Vincent Gallo, Clint Eastwood, Roberto Benigni, Warren Beatty, Kevin Costner, Erich von Stroheim, Tim Robbins, George Clooney, Frank Borzage, Albert Brooks, Rainer Fassbinder, Dennis Hopper
Haha! That's right, Vincent Gallo famously put himself in one of his films, to much derision from, well, everyone else alive.
Actually, Vincent Gallo has starred in both of the films he's directed ("Buffalo '66" and "The Brown Bunny").
I'd forgotten about that. His questionable reasons for shooting that famous scene in "Brown Bunny" eclipses anything else he's done, in my opinion.
I'll add more when I get the time. I just made this list from the top of my head so there is alot that I left out.
Hal Hartley appears in his non-epic non-commercial non-audience friendly movie "Flirt", in the third and last of that three-part movie alongside then-girlfriend and japanese catress Miho Nikaido.
Larry Fessenden both directed and starred in "Habit". (Good movie, BTW.) Also, Abel Ferrara cast himself in "Driller Killer" and "Ms. 45".
Sydney Pollack put himself in Tootsie.
yeah, george clooney and marlon brando, although they are more like actors who directed themselves, but who's to say the difference.
Actors directing their pet projects:
Billy Bob Thornton / Sling Blade
Dennis Hopper / Easy Rider
Jack Nicholson / Goin' South, The Two Jakes
John Singleton / Shaft, Boyz in the Hood
John Turturro / Mac
Steve Buscemi / Trees Lounge
Campbell Scott and Stanley Tucci / Big Night
Rob Reiner / This Is Spinal Tap
Billy Crystal / Mr. Saturday Night, Forget Paris
Several movies:
John Sayles
John Waters
Other:
John Mellencamp / Falling from Grace
Prince / Under the Cherry Moon
Mark Borchardt / Coven (Coh-ven, not like "oven")
I have another list for Actors who have directed at least one film so I'll add them there.
