No Dr. Zhivago hmm? I suppose most consider that his worst film, but the sheer scope of it always me admire the film. As for Lawrence of Arabia being his best, it unquestionably is, the fact that the film was made in 1962 and it wasn't afraid to show that fact that Lawrence may have been homosexual, was arrogant, he may not have cared for the Arabs as much as his own fame, the list goes on and on is truly a testament to the genius of David Lean, what a wonderful film Lawrence of Arabia is and the Dvd is a gem as well. I recall watching 60 minutes or it may have been the Charlie Rose show a few years ago when Peter O'Toole was being interviewed and they asked him a few questions about Lawrence of Arabia. Their are two that I still remember, one was, 'What was it like to play T.E. Lawrence?' The answer went something like this, 'Well, I played the part for quite along time (i want to say it was a few years, but can't remember if he said that) and I began to hate it, for various reasons, one that Lawrence was arrogant, probably gay, and an exhibitionist. The other question was something like this, 'Did you think that the movie was going to be a big hit?' The answer. 'Oh yes, we all knew that we were going to be stars after this movie, we all knew yes.' I thought it was refreshing to actually hear honest answers from this helluva an actor, I'm so used to hearing bullshit spew from most actors of his caliber that his honesty was refreshing. The show also talked about how much O'Toole and his name escapes me but the one that plays the mercenary like character with the long nose ran up a huge gambling debt while they were filming the movie. It was a truly wonderful 60 minutes or Charlie Rose and if you can get your hands on it I advise you to do so.

I'll have to try and to catch that interview. It sounds great.

I'm not sure if Doctor Zhivago really is considered his worst film. It has gone through a bit of a critical rehabilitation as of late, and I notice the All Movie Guide gives it a five-star rating out of five stars. Surely, at the very least, Ryan's Daughter is considered weaker. I like Zhivago, but I also had some serious problems with it, and it falls short of the above for me.

Lawrence of Arabia is simply one of my favorite films ever.

Shalom, y'all!
