these are bands/artists i've been curious about for some time but haven't heard enough of to make a decision about whether i like them or not.
comments and recommendations welcome!

shudder to think are an easy one off your list- you dig "velvet goldmine"? they're responsible for most of the soundtrack. they put on a crazy good live show.
Of that list of albums, i have listened to 3 of the artists on that board. I have a CD by Badly Drawn Boy, Manic Street Preachers, and the Beta Band. I must say that i was disapointed by the Manic Street Preachers, and Beta Band cds (did you get the beta band from High Fidelity?), but Badly Drawn Boy is a GREAT Cd... one of my favorites, and is in regular rotation in my cd player. I suggest you check them out.
Thanks
As a terrible film nerd, I feel bound to point out that the Unbelievable Truth is named after a film by my favorite director, Hal Hartley.
Forgive me.
Shalom, y'all!

no need to apologize--i'm particularly appreciative of random knowledge. so thanks!
Whew!
For what it's worth, it was Hartley's first film, and being polite, I'll simply say it isn't my favorite movie by him.
Shalom, y'all!

Diana Krall has a fantastic voice. I started with her tribute to Nat King Cole called "All for You". There are many good Count Basie compilations out there. "Swingsation" is one worth listening to. Louis Prima isn't my favorite, but that's mostly because his voice gets on my nerves. Fats Waller is a hell of a pianist. Many of the recordings of him are unfortunately really old-time scratchy.
