How were Flaming Lips, Ben Folds, and U2?
Flaming Lips didn't play for nearly long enough. They opened for Beck, but they got to bring in their gonzo stage show: twenty people in animal costumes, jiggling heavy-duty flashlights into the audience. For the end of one song, Wayne sang a duet with a nun puppet, and everything was performed to a video backdrop of planes taking off, Japanese schoolgirls shooting each other (taken from a movie, of course), and a live, indiscernible, organ pumping in a body cavity. The highlight for me was when they broke out "Lightning Struck the Postman," which became anthemic march alongside a wave of screaming guitar punch. 6 or so songs, which isn't much, but they were Beck's backing band, which added a whole new kind of dynamic.
For sure the best show I ever seen was de zoo TV tour in Los Angeles, also PopMart in Anaheim and Vegas, and Elevation tour in Los Angeles, Cleveland and Toronto. U2 live worth it the money and the time.
