Ah, Rachmaninoff's Prelude in c# minor. Along with one of Chopin Nocturnes, this is one of the few pieces I've learned to play to concert level, and for which my memory is near impeccable. Usually my nerves get the better of me and I blank.

I guess it's not just me. That piece really is suited nicely for memorization as that is really the only piece I can play half-decently as well, or at least I used to. I am by no means a trained pianist.

I guess maybe it's because it doesn't have bits that repeat a few times over with minor variations. Those minor variations can mess with the memory. I personally am quite fond of pieces that have a pattern in the upper voice and the melody sounding below - I'm not sure why.

Kudos for playing such a difficult piece without training.
