:-O Wow!
You've got a lot of DVDs, and these are just the comedies?!
I haven't even got as half as much as this, but that's probably also because I don't really like DVDs.
Sorry, I am unable to comprehend the last five words of your comment. For a strange moment I actually thought it seemed to say something about [Heresy Warning!] not liking DVDs - but, no, that's just unpossible.
Well, a lot of these fall into more than one genre. There are probably a few that some would argue are not comedies - sense of humour is a very tricky thing.
Why do I buy so many DVDs? I love movies and hate having them interrupted by advertisements.
It's true, I confess: I don't like DVDs, but don't ask me why. Somehow I prefer... I don't even dare to write it... VHS. OK, I know that the quality of DVDs is much better and that, sooner or later, there will no longer be any VHS.
Here is probably one reason why I don't like DVDs: I have made rather negative experiences with DVDs [e.g. I once put a DVD (ZONE 1!) into my DVD-ROM (ZONE 2!)... well, after that I had to buy a new DVD-ROM].
Concerning the advertisements on TV: For Luxembourg, it's rather simple. If you wanna see really good movies (The Third Man, In the Heat of the Night, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, etc.), you just have to watch channels like ARD, ZDF, 3-Sat or arte. What's now the point? They show these films quite often, and they do NOT interrupt them by advertisements. (90% of the films in my Movie-Planner were shown on these TV-channels)
P.S.: I plan to buy Lawrence of Arabia next, but then on DVD: because, first, I don't think the film is available on VHS; secondly, I want to see what the extras (trailers, etc.) are like, and finally, what would I do in eight or ten years with a Lawrence of Arabia-VHS?
There are a couple of ad-free channels available where I live too, one is great for old British films (and just lately some old U.S. films too)and the other is good for non-English language films.
LOR is a must-have (I don't have it but I can borrow my brother's copy any time), one of the all-time greats. If I were allowed to have only ten movies on DVD (hmmm, idea for a possible list), LOR would be one of them.
Don't misunderstand me now. I have already seen Lawrence of Arabia (by the way, it's #1 of my all-time favourite films, :) ), but unfortunately I haven't got it on DVD, only on VHS.
Yes, I wasn't assuming you hadn't seen LOA (don't know where I got LOR), which is why I said 'must- have', etc.
