- War and Peace (Leo Tolstoy)- I started reading the book, and stopped on page 7, because there are LOTS of different characters with difficult Russian names in the book. Perhaps I'll try it again in a few years. Has anyone read the book?
- Atlas Shrugged (Ayn Rand)- It’s incredibly long, there are big chunks of the book where nothing happens, plus it contains several unreadable long and repetitive monologues.(suggested by xfanatic50)
- Gravity's Rainbow (Thomas Pynchon) (suggested by kbuxton)
- Don Quixote (Cervantes)- Long and mostly tedious with the occasionally amusing passage (suggested by professor)
- The Silmarillion (Tolkien)- Lots of difficult names out of the Middle Earth universe.
- Les Misérables (Hugo) (suggested by lukeprog)
- House of Leaves (Mark Z. Danielewski)- Bringing a whole new defintion to the term 'unreliable narrator'. (suggested by cmonster)

SUGGESTIONS!!!

I struggled through Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand... it's so incredibly long, there are big chunks of the book where nothing happens, plus it contains several (in my opinion) unreadable long and repetitive monologues. I definitely will never read it again...
Thank you for the suggestion.
Gravity's Rainbow - Thomas Pynchon
Thanks.
Don Quixote by Cervantes.   Long and mostly tedious with the occasionally amusing passage.
I listened to Geouge Guidall's reading of Don Quixote on CD. I found it remarkably entertaining, despite its run time of 40+ hours.
Certainly I recognise that it is a very popular book, but it was not for me. Perhaps a stirring and enthusiastically read audio version would make the difference.
Les Miserables. Thank God there's always the play and movies.
House of Leaves by Mark Z Danielewski. Bringing a whole new meaning to the term "unreliable narrator".
Also, I have a list of books I never managed to finish.
