Classes I'm Taking [Fall 2004]

Tags:
  • SAGES 214 - Laughter (3 credits) An interdisciplinary course investigating why, how, when human beings laugh, from a variety of perspectives including biological, psychological, political, philosophical, and literary. [I don't have high hopes for this... but it was the only Sages seminar that fit nicely into my schedule.]
  • Anthropology 102 - Being Human (3 credits)
  • Women's Studies 222 - Gender in US Society (3 credits)
  • History 353 - Women in American History
  • Gym Requirement - CPR / First Aid
  • English 368C - Topics in Film: Hitchcock - We meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the classroom, and again on Monday nights to watch the films.
  • Music 230 - Roots to Rock - This course will explore American popular music--from ragtime and the blues to disco and progressive rock--in the context of social, political, and cultural history, thus illuminating music's relationship to currents in American life and revealing its importance in the construction of American identity. Classes will take place at Case and at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, where students will have direct access to the Rock Hall's large collection of artifacts and objects, including audio and video recordings documenting popular music history from the turn of the century to the present day. Museum staff will be involved in the inter-institutional learning initiative, and the course will showcase local and visiting popular music performers.

PLEASE NOTE: At this point I don't know if I'll be returning to my current school in the fall. I've applied to a few schools as a transfer student, and may end up elsewhere. Since I don't know, though, I registered for my fall courses here, and this is what I've signed up for. I think it's a fabulous schedule, and I'd be sorry to give it up, but...

EDIT [6/18] - I've decided to stay at the university I'm going to now. I'm happy with my decision. Once I decided on my majors (I'm majoring in both American Studies and Anthropology, with a minor in either Women's Studies or English (with a concentration in film), or both) I became much happier.
