A Character Game With a Twist (Tougher)

Tags:
  • The rules of the game: There are 50 characters here played by 25 actors. To get credit, you must name BOTH characters that are played by the same actor and BOTH movies. For example, if Rick Blaine and Sam Spade were #12 and #43 on the list, to get any credit you must say "#12 is Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca and #43 is Humphrey Bogart in The Maltese Falcon." Got it? Good.

Author Comments:

Note: Don't fall into the trap of thinking that all of these characters are from movies I've seen. Oh, and good luck.

Once again, I must warn y'all that if no one guesses, I'll give out hints.

8/4/02 - Alright, time for some hints. Here are some of the more well-known actors and actresses with parts on this list, plus a couple more I threw in just to throw you off:

Groucho Marx, Mel Gibson, Steve Martin, Nicolas Cage, Marilyn Monroe, Orson Welles, John Cleese, Joe Pesci, Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn, Lillian Gish, Mel Brooks, Clark Gable.

Hope this helps.

8/18/02 - Sniff sniff. Only 9 posts. Shall I just post the answers, or should I not even bother doing that?

Are 19 and 24 Eddie Murphy (Beverly Hills Cop and Bowfinger)?

They are. Nice going, Jim!

Another guess: 5 and 11 are Sigourney Weaver (Ghostbusters and Alien)?

Yes!

4 & 26 is Tom Hanks, "Forrest Gump" and "Volunteers"
16 & 22 is Mel Gibson, "Lethal Weapon" and "The Bounty
27 & 48 is David Niven, "The Pink Panther" and "Casino Royale"
13 & 29 is Whoopi Goldberg, "The Player" and "Ghost"

Whoops. I must apologize; I tried to avoid a mistake like this on the game, but apparently, I goofed. You have most of them right, but I'm actually referring to a different Fletcher Christian, not the one played by Mel Gibson. There's a different Mel Gibson role on the list too. I would give you credit anyway, but it won't work out in the end. Sorry. You got the other three right though.

Boooooo! I demand a recount!!!

Fiiine...since I screwed up, I'll tell you what the other Mel Gibson role is, if you want. I'll leave it up to you: you want me to give you credit for Mel Gibson, or you want to try and work it out for yourself?

Nahhhh! Let's let someone else take the credit for the other Gibson role. I don't want to seem like a credit hog.

Great list, and fun, too!!! Keep up the great work!

I'd leave them unanswered for at least a couple more days. There are a couple Listologist heavy-hitters that haven't chimed in yet. Maybe they will. Even if they don't, I at least think it's a cool concept for a quiz. Too bad you weren't posting these when quizzes were all the rage here.

Heh, yeah, I think I just missed some of the more popular points of listology. I've read some of the older lists, some with over 100 posts on them. I've also read a lot of jblack's stuff, but does anyone know whatever happened to him? He hasn't posted anything in almost 3 months.

He comes and goes like the wind. :-) When he's here he's here alot. When he's gone, it's usually for months. There are several Listologists that have been MIA for awhile. I should compile a list...

Listology tends to have a fairly small core of die-hard regulars. Then there are long-termers that only come back once in awhile. And every now and then there's an influx of new blood. While I'm glad Listology enjoys such a high signal:noise ratio, sometimes I think at least a little more traffic would be a good stimulant. It's also important to keep in mind that things are usually slower around here during the summer.

#16 is Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon and #22 is Mel Gibosn in The Bounty.

(sigh) I think I'll give credit for Mel Gibson to both you and slipkid71, and tell you what the other one is, because it was pretty tricky. Yes, #16 is Mel Gibson in "Lethal Weapon", but for #22, I'm talking about another Fletcher Christian. The other Mel Gibson performance here was #2, John Smith in "Pocahontas", although he obviously only voiced the character. I'm sorry about the goof-up.

1 = Lester Bangs is played by Phillip Seymour Hoffman in "Almost Famous" Seymour Hoffman also portrays Freddy Benson in "The Talented Mr. Ripley". Or at least I hope!

I'm afraid Hoffman's role in "Talented Mr. Ripley" is named Freddie Miles. Good call with "Almost Famous" though.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman also plays Dusty Davis (40) in Twister.

That he does. I'll give dual credit to you and jenhowel.

Jim Stark (47) and Jett Rink (28) are James Dean in
Rebel Without a Cause and Giant.

Dolores Paley (43) and Maerose Prizzi (49) are Angelica Houston in
Crimes and Misdemeanors and Prizzi's Honor.

SanDeE (17) and Claire Wellesley (39) are Sarah Jessica Parker in
L.A. Story and State and Main.

Philadelphia Thursday (8) and Sara Crewe (35) are Shirley Temple in
Fort Apache and The Little Princess.

A great twist to the game - makes it really tough.

Maybe a little too tough. Before you, only six of the pairs were guessed. But nice job with your four; all were right. Congrats!

I could work on the others if you like, but the truth is I cheat - researched on the internet.

*shrugs* Eh, whatever. It's not like anyone else was going to get them.

Is this game still going on?
If yes, I think I have found one:

#46 is Joe Pesci in Casino and #34 is Joe Pesci in Home Alone I and II.

Sure, it's still going on. Nice job!

I'm sooooo bad with character names in movies. I'll bet #3 is the name of a character in 20 different movies, though :-)

How about:

18. Barbara Stanwyck
45. Barbara Stanwyck
20. Audrey Hepburn
23. Audrey Hepburn

Yup! In the future, try to post movie titles too, but I'll let you by this time. :-)

Hey, I got one!
3. Michael Williams and 36. Ronny Cammareri - Nicolas Cage in Moonstruck and Red Rock West.

Correct!

#30 - Orson Welles in Touch of Evil; #33 - Orson Welles in The Third Man

Groucho Marx:
9. Ronald Kornblow- A Night In Casablanca
37. Quincey Adams Wagstaff- Horse Feathers

How about 10 and 38 as Cary Grant in The Awful Truth and Notorious, and 44 and 50 as Don Ameche in Trading Places and Heaven Can Wait.

All three of you are right. Well done!

Steve Martin 7 - All Of Me, 25 - Dirty Rotten Scoundrals?

Indeed!

#6 (The Birth of a Nation) and #12 (The Night of the Hunter) must be Lilian Gish.

Right you are, sir.

22 - Clarke Gable "Mutiny on the Bounty"
32 - Clarke Gable "Teacher's Pet"

That is what I was going for! Sorry I missed your post for so long.
