This is an entry in a continuing series I call Critical Consensus. I am averaging the opinions of several excellent music critics to produce a list of each artist's albums. The albums will each have a rating between 1 and 10. The albums will be listed in a recommended purchasing order, so new fans will have an idea of where the best place to start buying an artist's work is. These are not my opinions, although, since I have chosen the critics used (and I'm using many), my taste will perhaps seep through a bit.

Terribly nerdy, I know, but maybe this will help people only now beginning to dabble into certain artists' bodies of work.

I definitely agree with Daydream Nation at the to spot, but Sister isn't my favorite Sonic Youth album. Personally I prefer Washing Machine. Nice list

Thanks. I must admit that I am a Sister fan, but Daydream Nation is easily my fave by the Youth.

Next - Elvis Costello and Yo La Tengo!

Shalom, y'all!

Thank You. This is my favorite band. I cannot say which album is better than the other. You forgot some (experimental noise and ambient stuff released on Sonic Youth Records) but this is a great list anyway.

I didn't really forget them, especially the SY series, but since this list is generated from the opinions of critics, I could only included releases that enough critics covered / reviewed to make a consensus. Most critics didn't cover some of the 'minor' releases, and hence those are missing from the list.

Sorry. Glad you enjoyed!

Shalom, y'all!
