Buffy Season 1: My 5 Favorite Episodes

- the Pack (1.6) - The first eaten principal of Sunnydale High! And surely not the last to be eaten either. I love this episode, as Xander being so out-of-character and mean, is actually pretty cool. The dodgeball scene was pretty intense, made for great visuals. And the real-life moral of today's Buffy: bullies suck!
Favorite Quote: the Coach (after the Pack plummets a poor kid with their dodgeballs): God, this game is brutal. I love it! - ----
- the Witch (1.3) - Season one of Buffy: definitely the season that caters to those who like their Buffy episodes to be scary with wry humor. Not that anything is particularly frighteneing, but this episode is classic. Contains a semi-unexpected plot twist, which is always great. The ending, with the eyeballs moving inside the trophy... classic! This is also referenced again in season 2, gotta love continuity. Buffy the Hyperactive Cheerleading Slayer who can hurl a girl 50 feet through the air with one hand... great stuff.

I make allowances for your youth, but I expect a certain amount of responsibility, and instead of which you enslave yourself to this, this...Cult? Buffy: (wearing a cheerleader outfit) You don't like the color? - -----
- Out of Mind, Out of Sight (1.11) - Ahh, revenge for the unpopular, ignored, plain janes everywhere! This episode makes me want to become invisible so I can ruthlessly torture everyone who ever treated me badly... I also love the ending, where the invisible students are hired by the FBI... as assasins, lol.
Favorite Quote: Cordelia (to Buffy): Because you're always around when all this weird stuff is happening. And I know you're very strong, and you've got all those weapons... I was kind of hoping you were in a gang. - -----
- Prophecy Girl (1.12) - Buffy faces the Master and dies... for the first time. The season finale, and also one of the most-loved Buffy episodes ever. I reviewed this ep in my list of top Buffy episodes already, so nothing much to say here.
Favorite Quote: Giles: Buffy, if the Master rises... Buffy: I don't care! I don't care. Giles, I'm sixteen years old. I don't wanna die.
Other Favorite Quote: Master: You were destined to die! It was written! Buffy: What can I say? I flunked the written. - ----
- Angel (1.7) - Buffy discovers that Angel is a vampire! Darla, always a delight is also in this episode, trying to 'seduce' Angel. This episode also tests the bond between Buffy and Angel for the first time, as Darla has 'framed' Angel for biting Buffy's mother. You just cringe in horror as Buffy falls for it and vows to kill Angel. Very gut-wrenching. And the ending: with Buffy's cross burning into Angel's chest-- classic!
Favorite Quote: (Jealous) Xander: Buffy, c'mon, wake up and smell the seduction. It's the oldest trick in the book. Buffy: What? Saving my life? Getting slashed in the ribs? Xander: Duh! - ----

Not many episodes to choose from in season one; as the show started mid-season. These are in no particular order. Those are the episode numbers in parenthesis, NOT numerical ratings. So (1.2) would mean: season 1, episode 2. (Although these are all from season one anyway, duh...)

Yay, Buffy!!! There's something to like in every episode, surely. My most memorable bit out of Episode 1, "Welcome to Hellmouth", is when Xander collides with Buffy in the school corridor and she rushes off leaving him to say (something like)"Wait, you forgot your....stick." Later he suggests she's "building a tiny picket fence".
I remember that! That was a good moment too. there's always something memorable about every Buffy episode; even the bad ones. :-p
Let me encourage you - plead with you - to continue with this list and this (I hope) series of lists.
No problem! I think I'll just keep each season at 5 'choice' episodes and an honorable mention though.
