Vance Gilbert is definitely cool. I saw him at a folk festival last summer in Oulu, and he was
way approachable afterwards. I'd go see him again.

for anyone in the rochester, ny area--he'll be playing the 12 Corners Coffeehouse on January 15 at 8:00pm. you should definitely check 'im out!

I really don't have anything comparable although I did play whiffle ball with Wilco and helped the Jayhawks and Victoria Williams set up their stage gear.

I don't know if this really counts, but My Aunt worked for Michael Jackson. She was a zookeeper at Neverland Ranch and she worked with the Elephants. She said (surpirse) that the guy was a complete nutjob. My favorite story she'd tell about him is that he had this fat guy who looked like Santa dressed up as a train conductor and drive this little train around all day. The supervisor fired him because he thought he was worthless, and when Michael came to visit (this was in the 80's, so he was busy being HUGE) he looked around and said, "Where's my jolly fat man?"

hi--I'd love to chat with your aunt, the ex-elephant keeper at Neverland. I'm a reporter for the Los Angeles Times and I'm doing a piece on Neverland. I can be reached via email at steve.chawkins@latimes.com or at (805)653-7561.

thanks much,
