These are some of my favorite books (except The Jungle) but I wouldn't necessarily want to live there. This list was inspired by the fact that I have twice been asked to read Heart of Darkness and watch the companion film Apocalypse Now for classes. I really think they are good valuable contributions to the world, but they are really horrifying to experience.
