My new years resolution is to read more and these are some of the books I need to get me started. (Not in any kind of order!)
Hopefully having a list and being able to move books to the 'books I've read recently' list as I read them might actually encourage me to do it!
Mind you I'll probably end up adding books quicker than I read them!

Just LOVED The Catcher in the Rye. My best friend has read some Terry Pratchett books so I will ask her which one to start with. Maybe she'll even come here and respond herself. Don't know if you're interested but my favorite book of all time is Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte.

Thanks, am hoping to get Catcher in the Rye soon.
I've read Wuthering Heights and I also loved it! It is definately one of my favourites.

The 1st Terry Pratchett book, I believe, is called "The Color of Magic" and the 2nd is "The Light Fantastic". To double check me, pick up any of the Discworld books and look in the front cover... his books are usually listed in order. You CAN read the books in any order you choose, but reading them in the order they were published will allow you to catch jokes from previous books. Also, some characters are more prominent in certain books (i.e. wizard books, witch books, guard books, etc...) I don't have the URL handy at the moment since I'm at work, but there is an "L-Space" website that gives some different reading orders I believe. If you want help finding the site or have any other questions, email me at toeheelexpress@hotmail.com and I'll provide you with more info.

P.S. I've read like 16 of the Discworld books so far and enjoyed all of them. Great series!!!

See, she's the "Queen" of Discworld. ;)

I might try reading the first one sometime. I've seen some fan-generated artwork inspired by the storylines and they've interested me enough in a possible reading. I've never really been drawn to comedies but it doesn't hurt to try!

Here's a link to reading order guides. Enjoy! I'm love them all except the Rincewind books, so I personally don't advocate reading them in publishing order, since that means your first exposure to the Disc is via Rincewind, but that's just me. I know lots of folks love that sub-series. Me, I prefer the Watch series and the Witches series, closely followed by the Death series.

Thanks a lot for all the discworld advice.
I did start reading The Colour of Magic a few years ago and couldn't get into it, somebody told me that it was not a good book to start with and should try something else. I really want to read them as I love fantasy novels and so many people have said that discworld are really good.
Have looked at the reading order guide and made a mental note of which ones they suggest as being a starter book so hopefully I will pick one of them up soon!

I'm so glad to see someone else interested in Gabriel Nix's work. Lirael is on my list of must-reads, but the library is being suspiciously slow about getting a copy.

The series was recommended to me by one of my research subjects. We pretty much had to pry Lirael out of his hands to get him to start the experiment. Let me know how Sabriel is.

I'll be sure to let you know but I don't know when I'll get around to reading it!

Sabriel was a brilliant and very inventive fantasy. I particularly like the fantasy genre and this was very good.
