I'm trying to remember... It has been nearly a decade now, but I seem to recall that A Prayer for Owen Meany is one of the only books that left me in tears. Terrific book. I wasn't sure I was ever going to get through the first chapter, but once the baseball game arrived, I never put the puppy down!

The book was laugh-out-loud funny and sad too. It's one of my all time favorite.
If you liked Empire Falls, I hope you'll find the time to read some of Russo's other wonderful books. I think my favorite was Nobody's Fool, which was hilarious, followed by The Risk Pool.
I am sure you will be interested to know that the movie rights to Girl with a Pearl Earring have been purchased and set to be on a movie screen sooner rather than later.
