The All-True Travels & Adventures of Lidie Newton, Jane Smiley
Author Comments:
I did a lot of driving by myself (or with just my daughter) in April and did a few books on tape. When it was a good one I couldn't wait to get back in the car. And since they were definitely not children's books, I would do everything I could to convince Ann Marie to go to sleep so that I could hit "play"... I definitely recommend the whole idea of books on tape.
Yaya was great... Made me laugh, made me cry, in the process making other drivers on the NJ Turnpike think they were driving along with some crazy woman in the midst of an emotional breakdown.
Timequake was good, especially if you like Kilgore Trout.
The God of Small Things was painfully slow and very repetitive. I actually hit fast-forward a few times.
The All-True Travels... was not great, but was pretty good, and it got me through the ride.
