I know, it's an odd combination!

Interesting list. I've read most, but for some reason I can't get into Toni Morrison. Another that you might like in the sci-fi genre is Frank Herbert's DUNE. The movie was terrible, but the book was a major work.
I was reading Beloved for a class I was taking and most of the class complained that they couldn't follow the storyline. I, however, found it to be compelling, but I know it's a difficult read.
Oh, and I've been intending to read Dune for a while now. The movie was a bit...disappointing, but I could see how it would make a great book.
strange--i finished the red tent in one day as well, which almost never happens to me. the author's writing style was unlike anything i'd ever read before, but the story was intriguing as well. do you think one of these makes it more compelling than the other, or is it a combination of both? i'm just curious what you think makes a book "devourable" (since it happens more often to you than to me!) i'd appreciate any thoughts you have on the matter.
