"Big" movies I've never seen and why.

- Ali (2001)
- This is one I occasionally reach for at the video store, but never rent. Besides, I'd have to watch it when my wife wasn't in the house; she has always disliked Mohammad Ali.
- Blackhawk Down (2001)
- This movie held no interest for me whatsoever; the trailers just looked like American propaganda. No disrespect intended to the military, just to Hollywood.
- Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961)
- Audrey Hepburn leaves me rather cold, but it's not her that keeps me from renting this; it's just one of those movies I'm pretty sure I won't like so don't bother to rent. I will eventually, of course because I also have the feeling it will turn into one of those movies that is a pleasant surprise. Sort of like a higher-class Ace Ventura: Pet Detective which I expected to hate and ended up enjoying immensely.
- Breakfast Club, The (1985)
- I can't stand a single person in this one, so why bother?
- Crying Game, The (1992)
- Man, where does the time go? I fully intended to rent this movie as soon as it came out on video, and never did. And yes, I know the movie's "suprise", and no, it won't bother me that I know.
- Diner (1982)
- This one just sort of passed me by. I do like some of the main actors so I really don't have an excuse. Guess I'll have to get it soon.
- E.T. The Extra-terrestrial (1982)
- I'm actually rather proud that I've never seen this movie all the way through. When it first came out even the trailers wanted to make me gag. In the intervening 22 years I have- unfortunately- been subjected to rather long clips of various parts of the movie, none of which made me in any measure envious to see the entire thing. Besides, I still can't stand Drew Barrymore.
- Intolerance (1916)
- Supposedly a movie classic, I just never got around to renting it in the one place it was available for rent. I really disliked Griffith's The Birth of a Nation so I never felt it was a big loss.
- Ladykillers, The (2004)
- Whereas I am a sort of fan of Tom Hanks, I have no intention of seeing this any time soon. I loved the 1955 original with Alec Guinness, and I'm afraid even the Coen brothers would do it an injustice. (Heck, I'll probably rent it as soon as I can; I'm like that)
- Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967)
- I know the premise and the cast, and the whole thing just doesn't appeal to me. Nor did the clips I've seen over the years.
- On The Waterfront (1954)
- Two words: Marlon Brando.
- My Darling Clementine (1946)
- I hear this is a very good movie, but all I've seen of it is the tiny clips they showed in the mess tent on an episode of M*A*S*H. It has Henry Fonda, and Walter Brennan in a very serious role. I should rent this one A.S.A.P.
- Pearl Harbor (2001)
- Does anyone have to ask why I didn't see this?
- Remains of the Day (1993)
- The copy we rented was defective, the video store had no other copies on hand, and we just got a different movie. I suppose I should rent it again.
- Sabrina (1954)
- Not a big fan of Audrey Hepburn, but I do enjoy Bogart and William Holden; but in a romantic comedy? Maybe.
- Terminal, The (2004)
- Totally uninteresting trailers and idea. True story? Who cares? The reviews I read aren't pushing me to see it, either.
- Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966)
- I've seen too many depressing clips of this to bother with the movie. Really, who wants to see a couple of alcoholics shouting at each other during drinks with friends? I can see that at my local bar for free. In any case Elizabeth Taylor is one of my least-favorite actresses.
- These are just off the top of my head. I'll have to do a "part 2" when I recall more.

Just a list of big-name movies (or even "classics") that I've never seen.

I'm very proud that I have never seen Titanic. Seven years and still going strong!
Unfortunately, that was a bullet I just couldn't dodge. My wife liked it.
I am also unable to dodge any bullets coming from Steven Seagal, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Wesley Snipes and a few others because... my wife likes them. Oy vey.
Hey, My Darling Clementine is one of John Ford's best movies...plus it's about Wyatt Earp and the Gunfight at the OK Corrall. A definate must-see because it's as entertaining as sticking a Gerbil down your pants (maybe not a good analogy).
Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf? is really good and funny as hell in a viscious way, but to each their own.
I'm not sure whether I agree with your choices to avoid...except for Pearl Harbour. If you want the same sensation, getting a chopping block and a large wooden mallot, then put your head on cho-block and pound the mallot into your head until you feel dizzy. That should recreate the feeling pretty well.
T'ho
:?)
Well, I wasn't really listing movies to avoid, per se, just movies I haven't seen; be it because I didn't want to, or just haven't yet gotten around to seeing. I will see some of these eventually... Really.
I like the idea of this list -- I'm often put off by too much hype, regardless of how good the movie looks. Sometimes I'm pleasantly surprised when I eventually get around to seeing these, but I don't usually regret avoiding them.
The only one on this list I'll put in a plug for is The Crying Game. I seem to remember I'd seen Forrest Whitaker in something much less substantial before then, and his performance really blew me away. Otherwise, enh.
I'm not much of a Marlon Brando fan either, in fact I usually don't like him in most of the movies I've seen him in but he wasn't too bad in On The Waterfront (1954). You should see it; three words: Eva Marie Saint.
