Dylan's version is by far my favorite song of all time, and collectively it's even more favored by me to any other music out there... the funny thing is that despite the lyrics for the longest time(prior to my loving it so much) I thought it was about drugs. After seeing the peckinpah movie and learning it's history I realized it's true meaning. Who knew it was about a gut-shot sheriff played by slim pickens? Not me, not for a while.
In Order Of My Preference

Have you heard Knockin' On Heaven's Door by Avril Lavigne? It's on her Nobody's Home [CD Single]
yes I have, and it's not very good... it's hard to imagine that I was selective at all when the list turns up 26 memebers, but I did turn down a few.
has anyone heard the version by a band called Heaven?..they were an 80's band who covered "knocking on heavens door" and in my opinion its a very good cover!
never heard of 'em but i'll definitely give it a look... you can't have too many good covers of this great song.
you can find video of this band and song at youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sbWqMVwZmA&mode=related&search=
